The hype about social networking had the demand on camera and pictures escalating. As a result, even the classic single lens reflex camera (SLR) has been re-invented into a digital device; hence the name, Digital SLR or DSLR.

The DSLR has become an instant hit. Even amateurs without experience on SLR’s can be seen with a DSLR. Being new to the device, many do not realise that DSLR’s are very sensitive devices. Proper maintenance is necessary in order for your camera to last. Here are some general tips on how to maintain your camera in a good working condition.

1. Get a bag

DSLR’s are sensitive to dust, moisture, and water. Thus, it is ideal to have a bag in order to protect it from these elements; especially if you are taking it to long trips or hiking.

2. Keep the lid on

The DSLR’s lens is also very sensitive to foreign materials. It can easily get scratched. Having it damaged will have great effects on the pictures that you take and you may have to buy a new lens as scratches cannot be removed. Thus, it is always recommended that you keep your DSLR lens’s covered every time you are not using it.

3. Beware of changing temperatures

If you have just been into an environment with intense heat and you suddenly entered an air-conditioned room, do not remove your DSLR from its bag immediately. Wait for at least half an hour for the bag’s temperature to gradually change. Exposure to changing temperatures can cause moisture on its lens that can cloud the pictures taken.

4. Keep it manual

Keep the lens into manual focus (or MF) mode when not being used. Accidentally spinning the camera’s focus while it is in AF (autofocus) mode can damage its auto focus capability. Thus, setting it to MF when not used keeps the possibility of damaging the autofocus at bay.

5. Keep it away from children

DSLR’s are not for children. Children’s playful and curious nature can prove to be disastrous for your DSLR.

We’ve all experienced it: the feeling of wondering about the person at the other end of that mysterious number that’s showing up on your phone. It used to be that Caller ID was the ultimate in identifying who is calling your number, but now, the proliferation of reverse phone services makes it easy to get to the data behind the formerly mysterious phone number.

Reverse phone lookups let you know who is trying to call you. Generally, these services come at a nominal price, but some providers offer a level of lookup service free to online customers. This free level of service may not contain all the bells and whistles (or all of the data points, for that matter) that a paid service may offer, but depending on your purposes, this may be enough. If you require more information on the phone number in question, it can usually be had for a modest price.

Both cell phones and land lines can be tracked by most reverse lookup services, though cell phones are apt to be more difficult for even the most intrepid reverse lookup engines to identify. Pre-paid cell phones generally provide the stiffest challenge for reverse lookup: it’s highly likely that no information about the caller will ever be forthcoming without pressing, legal need and a lot of good luck.

Landlines, however, are easy targets for most reverse lookup services. Once a lookup service has found a match, the pieces of information begin to fall into place: the name of the person to whom the phone number is registered, the address at which the number is registered, the name of the phone service carrier or provider and even the date of installation can all be identified in most cases.

Even when the caller’s telephone number is unlisted, reverse phone lookup services can usually find the identity of the caller and provide all sorts of identifying information – despite the fact that the phone number is “unlisted,” and ostensibly unavailable.

In most situations, it’s easy to find the identity of the person behind a phone number, simply by using a reverse phone lookup service. Knowing who is calling you – and who is behind that number – can be important and vital information. Next time you’re wondering who is calling, there’s an easy way to get the answer.

Whether you’re busy, lazy, or precautious, it can never hurt to have a backup memory card for your camera. For the average person, wiping your CF or SD cards is not a frequent undertaking, a daunting task left which is usually left until the last possible minute. Finding and untangling the cables in the first instance can be a nuisance, never mind ensuring that your camera has enough battery to transfer however many hundreds of photos are sitting on it. The temptation to put it off is always strong, but the disappointment and frustration which can be caused by missing a great photo due to a full card is usually greater. Buying a second card through Memory Card Zoo is easy and affordable, encouraging photography lovers to bite the bullet and buy a backup.

The company’s site offers a huge range of cards, both CF and SD, and memory card readers to make clearing them more practical and appealing, from well-known, trusted brands such as Sony, Lexar, Kingston, Fuji, and Sandisk, at great, affordable prices. The avid professional has the choice to purchase a backup 4GB CF memory card or to upgrade from this to something bigger, such as an enormous 64GB card, a choice open to personal preference and budget. Holidaymakers fretting about running out of memory whilst away from home could purchase several small back up SDs or go for something much larger to begin with such as a 16GB SD card.

These are affordable solutions to this 21st century dilemma, removing the need for the photographer to waste valuable battery life and time deleting photos to make room for new ones, trying to eliminate redundant pictures with only a small screen to look at as a guide. Busy professionals and scatterbrains no longer need to fear the ‘card full’ warning.
